1994 850 turbo Recommendation for Replacement

Post by Volvo_Ventures4 »

I owned a 1994 Volvo 850 Turbo, and mistakenly took the car to a non Volvo specific service center; needless to say, I've learned my lesson, as my Nightengayle is now no longer with us.
I need help deciding what to replace her with. I thought I wanted to "upgrade" to a S70 Turbo, however it seems the 1998 non Turbo is more recommended than its later year counterparts. Any tips on selecting an S70, or is there a recommended 850 year I need to revisit? I miss my Volvo and I am looking to buy soon. I am trying to avoid the wagon route, but I'll listen if someone knows which year is best. Thanks to all.

I LOVE my 95 850 turbo wagon. I also had owned a 98 v70r, and if I was starting with a clean slate I would be shopping for an "r"

If I were to do it again...1998 non-turbo.

Too many leaks at old age from the turbo model. If there's not enough power for you...then go the GLT or T5 route.

Hum... I really enjoyed my Turbo, however I've not yet tested drove the non Turbo. Could you tell me some more about the Turbo issues? Are the fixes expensive, or just a nuisance? Thanks!

Nuisance. Mechanically...the turbo cars are plenty reliable, but all the rubber coolant lines (don't forget the two at the turbo!) in the engine should be replaced when you take one in, as well as the PCV system. And so many things leak oil.

The non-turbos are fun in a 5-speed manual, a bit slow in the automatic.

I'm looking hard at a Cadillac CTS Wagon. Unlike Volvo wagons, they are hard to find, only about 7% of CTS's sold are sold as wagons.

Yep, I know, that wasn't the answer you wanted :).
