2001 S60 Engine replacement - different types?

Hi, 1st time poster, long time lurker.

My S60 threw a rod through the bottom of the engine block so I was looking at getting a used replacement. Here are some of the questions that I found.

The S60 that I have is an early model. Vin engine code (6 and 7) is a 53.

This is the engine that http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Vehicle_Id ... /VIN_Codes shows

53 = B5234T3 V70 T5 FWD

The engine I was looking at goes with vin code (6 and 7) 61 = B5244S S60/V70 2.4 FWD

Will the B5244S engine fit in my early model - 53?

Are these two engines compatible in terms of switching out the engine? Was trying to research the differences but haven't been able to find any information, so I come to the experts here.

The B5234 has slightly smaller bores and is mated to a high pressure turbo. The smaller bores and very dished pistons allow higher cylinder pressures and more boost to be dialled in by the car's engine ECU due to a greater thickness between cylinders. 220bhp

The B5244S is a non turbo engine with a larger bore. 168bhp

The B5244T is a low pressure turbo engine with the same bore as B5244S yet it has low compression pistons. 195bhp

You should always try to find the same engine type as the headaches to convert are usually not worthwhile as well as the extra stresses placed on the wrong type of motor.

The vin identification code of 53 shows the B5234T3. Which I just figured out a few minutes ago, the 23 in it means 2.3l engine.

I always thought the S60 I had used the 2.4l engine. So Huh? Called the dealership to verify and they were like, 2.3 - 2.4, toemaytoe - toemaaahtoe. haha.

But definetly have the B5234T3. The vin shows an early model. 1300th one to roll off the line.
