98 V70XC oversize piston rings
98 V70XC oversize piston rings
beginning to do a complete rebuild on a 98 LPT. the question is does anyone know if there is any confirmed source ".020 oversize rings sets still available? this seem to be a mixed topic. I'd like to know before I'm confronted with that info by the machine shop. if the pistons and piston walls look real good, would there be any harm in using a new set of standard rings?

Oversize rings for oversize pistons or you have to use a ring grinder and remove material until the ring end gap is correct. You adjust ring end gap for the least worn area of cylinder as you can't have a heated and expanded ring butting ends and then expanding towards cyl wall and binding piston in cyl. This results in wear on the ring land and results in rings being loose in ring land and failing.
You likely only need standard rings. Or you bore and go with oversize piston and ring sets.
Is it an oil burner or what leads you to rebuild it?

div4scpro, I would love to see a write up on your rebuild as I'm toying with the idea of a rebuild myself.
