1994 xc90 Door Handle Coming Apart

Hello Everyone,

My '94 xc90 has 110,000 miles. The rear passenger door handle is starting to come off the side of the car. Not the actual handle itself but the part behind it. I can't tell what purpose this part of the handle serves over than where you would put your thumb for pressure when opening the door. My question is can I basically just glue or epoxy this back on the side of the car or is this something I should be thinking about replacing? I am not concerned about how it looks, just don't want it to fall off and then HAVE to replace it at a much higher cost.
