Hey guys, I have a problem... My car will crank over, but won't start. The previous night went by just fine, the car ran fine, everything was good. Then the next morning, I go to warm up the car for work, and it doesn't fire up. The engine turns over, and it sounds like it wants to go every now and then, but then it just cranks. I am about 5 hours from the nearest dealer, and no one in this god for saken town knows anything about Volvo's. I'm on my own.... So, like I said, she cranks just fine, and every now and then will kinda just barely idle (close to dying), then die. If I wait a day, I can get it to do this type of idling, just once, and then it dies, and cranks from then on. She sounds like she wants to kick over, but doesn't. I disconnected the MAF, and nothing changes. I took out the ETM and cleaned it so it looks new. I also replaced the spark plugs hoping that some miracle would come of it. Of course that did nothing. What can I do?
How do I check relays?
How do I check my injectors?

Is this too common of a problem that people won't reply, or just one that no one has a guess to? I have gone to every shop in this little town and asked if anyone has a code reader that would work for this car, and no one does.... I went ahead and bought a truck that will fit everyone, but would still like to get this car going also. Or, someone can buy it from me for $1000.... whichever comes first.

I have a 2001 V70 T5 manual transmission with the same problem except that it is intermittent. Stopped for gas and it wouldn't start - but cranked fine. When it came to life 15 min later it ran flawlessly. No error codes.
Troubleshooting right now is focused on the fuel pump relay. Now if I could only find that relay. Apparently several circuits use identical relays so if I can swap them and the problem follows the relay I will have an answer and a solution.
Anybody know where to find that relay board? It is not next to the fuses as most diagrams suggest.

Check for fuel pressure at the rail the next time you have the no-start. The fuel pump relay lives under the fuse panel under the hood in P80 cars,I think your P2 is the sam..... there are some pictures in this thread

So, spyderwire, it's been almost 3 months now now! What happened ? Did you solve the problem?
If you and the car are still there check underneath the read seat the wires / connections to gas pump and the Level Sensor.
I had the same problem and the Level Sensor wires/connection were completely burned out.

Mine just got a whole lot worse. No longer intermittent - now crank but no start for days. Fuel pump does get voltage when cranking and fuel pump hums like it's working - not that that is definitive.
VIDA shows fault CEM-1A62 - "communication with ECM missing". Volvo (VIDA) suggests for troubleshooting to check for battery voltage present at ECM and check for faulty ground - then check network cabling. Anybody know how to do this without the special removal tool ($200) (DIY for 2000 here not applicable - different design) and breakout box ($?)? No error showing for camshaft position sensor + the problem was, for month, intermittent, so probably not this part.

Not exactly cheap imo either, but still a fraction of $200

Check the grounds first, much more likely its them than some fancy problem.

Bad ground connection makes sense, but where to check? So far everything looks good. After 2 days of troubleshooting and numerous attempts to start, it just started. Same trouble code - CEM-1A62 comes up as well as UCM-0004 "Siren" - but the alarm siren has been disconnected for years with no problem.
