2001 S80 T6 Engine system service required

I have seen this discussed before but no one ever posts a solution (that I can find )

Engine system services required message is displayed with yellow warning triangle. NO check engine light, NO codes found on O'Reilly scanner.

When scrolling through the onboard diagsnostics (hold down read button on turn signal stalk and press the rear fog light button three times) it tells me there is a code set on every module except the SRS. I have had an independant shop reset the light but turns back on at second engine start. Also reset it by disconnecting battery ground, same result.

Is there a common failure point that will trigger all these codes? Bad ground?

Thanks in advance for any help! Nearest Volvo dealer is 120 miles away.

An Ebay Via/Dice might be worth your time if you plan on keeping the vehicle for a while.

The CEM might be at fault, but I doubt you want to shotgun parts at the thing. Especially when they're so expensive.

I would like to drive it another year, son is getting his drivers license.

Did just have to replace the radiator (crack at upper hose connector) and all five engine mounts. It is also on its fourth transmission (original, two factory rebuilds and currently an AAMCO OH).

Car runs and drives well, just hate the nagging message.

Is there a way to remove the two control modules located in the box at front right fender? I would like to check the connectors for corrosion and re-seat them.

IPD Volvo sell a tool for this job. It is pretty much a necessity if you want to reseat the computers on the P2 chassis.

Thanks Mike, I will get that if I decide to go that route. I still can't believe that someone else has not had the same issue and not posted a resolution!

My money's on the CEM. Try contacting XeModex in Canada for a rebuild quote.

Before this check earth and voltage supplies to all modules. Is the alternator producing too much AC voltage? ( yes I DO MEAN AC not DC) Measure this voltage with engine running.

I will work on checking grounds and voltages during the week and report back. It is original alternator, starter, O2 sensors. No CEL, no codes that a parts store reader will pick up, only the goofy message and warning triangle. If I was in it for the long run I would get the Vadis.

I had a similar problem and it ended up being the Airbag computer. It took down 90% of the network. Same deal, no codes. They put it right below the cupholders and someone spilled who knows what down there. The liquid pooled on the SRS computer and actually corroded it. There were a few pins literally gone. I sent off a used module with my original to get cloned and soaked the connector in vinegar to neutralize any further corrosion. Got the cloned computer back a few days later and no more network craziness.

I will look at that, although nothing has been knowingly spilled in that area. I am open to all suggestions!! The airbag module is the only one that comes up ready on the self test.
