2002 S60 stalls restarts within 2 minutes

Post by jeffbecker5 »

Hello,
I have an 2002 S60, lately, at least once a day the car stalls, but will restart usually within 2 minutes.
It will crank the whole time, I usually turn the key off give it a few seconds then turn to start.
Most everything has been done to this car. Fuel pump, MAF, ETM, relays and timing belt. There are no codes present.
I've had a Launch CRecorder in the car and really doesn't show much when it stalls, it records a frame every 2 seconds.
The only abnormality I notice is every once in a while the engine RPM recorded will jump to 4193 rpm for 1 frame of data, then return to normal. It is not consistent with the stalling, just random.
I am putting CMP and CKP sensors in today.
Wonder if anyone has any thoughts.
Thanks

One possibility is something there has been a couple of recent posts about. You may want to check the crank shaft pulley. I had similar symptoms with a 2002 S60 AWD (turbo) that had a hard start problem that became a no start problem. Dealers told me it was the computer. WRONG. A local mechanic figure it out. Check your compression. Should be above 140 psi. I got lucky that it didn't bend the valves.

I'll take a look. Ran OK for an hour after cam and crank sensors replaced tonight.

Well, it DIDN'T make the 45 minute ride to work Friday without stalling.
Took 10 minutes to restart, very frustrating. Took a look under upper timing cover and everything seems tight. Did not look a car over weekend.
Close to finding a nice pole and testing the airbags and calling it a done deal!
