2000 S80T6 Unusual throttle problem

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

2000 S80T6 Unusual throttle problem

Post by ianfinnis »

I have an unusual problem that I can't see any previous posts for, so any help will be really appreciated.

Start engine, full throttle function. Place foot on brake to select gear (reverse, drive) and I have no throttle function at all. Select gear, take foot off brake, full throttle function again.

Problems over the last couple of months: Went into limp mode a couple of times on highway runs but came out of it OK after solutions posted on forum.

Checked codes using VIDA. Replaced MAF and turbo boost valve two weeks ago and has done about 500 kilometres since, with no problems.

EDIT: Just thinking..... Is this a Volvo safety feature? I was putting it up onto car ramps and this is the first time I've done it with the Volvo, hence having my foot on the brake while wanting to use the throttle.

I had this problem with early pre-2006 ETM firmware on an 01 XC70. When I replaced it with an ETM with post 2006 software the problem disappeared.

I bet if you go into the ETM test function it will reveal a red light indicating pre-2006 software and it won't be able to perform an ETM sweep test.

To find out go into Communication Tab then press ETM module then choose Parameters Tab then choose ETM test.
