2003 s80 fuel pump/fuel system nightmare

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

2003 s80 fuel pump/fuel system nightmare

Post by Jbarnes7n7 »

So I am a 1st time volvo owner and I must say I love the car, the way it looks and rides but this fuel problem has really got me worked up!! I will summarize what has happened over the past two weeks and any advice would be highly recommended!! So I drove 100 miles and the car was running fine, stopped at a big lots and shut car off for 10 min. Went to leave and the car would not start. No messages came up. Had it towed and the local repair shop said the fuel pump was bad which makes sense. I knew they would say that because I checked to see if fuel was getting to the engine and it was not. Anyway they replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter and the car started but they said that fuel was not transferring from one side of the tank to the other. Which makes no sense to me at all, it is a one piece tank that is saddle bag shaped. So any way I drove the car for about 5 days, putting 300 miles on it, constantly topping off the fuel talk. Then as I'm driving the car dies and would not start. I tried putting 3 gallons of fuel in it and still would not fire. Had it towed back to the shop, and again the fuel pump was not working. Got a new one in, airtex brand as opposed to spectra, the kind I got when we first replaced it, and installed this new pump, turn the key and the pump still does not even seem to be working. The 15 amp fuse in the driver side fuse box compartment is fine. I do not know if or where a fuel pump relay is/would be located for this car, a 2003 volvo s80 2.9L non-turbo. That's about all I can think of next to try n replace. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!! And any graph or description as to where the fuel pump relay is would be highly appreciated!!

There is a fuel pump relay on the CEM. The CEM is under the dash on left side (driver's side).
volvowiringdiagrams.com will have the wiring diagram and it will have the relays mapped.
