Need help diagnosing my problem. 2002 Volvo S60 went into limp mode as I was turning into my neighborhood. Got home, turned it off, turned it back on (several times), still in limp mode. Will not go over 20 mph. Car is having severe idle problems. It was so bad that the engine was shaking. Car will go from normal rpm's to high then back to normal then back to high....
Here is what I have done thus far:
Changed spark plugs and coil packs - no change.
Ordered Xemodex ETM, shipped old one, received new one, installed but no changed.
Pulled fuel filter and installed a new one - no change.
Finally, today I put in a new Mass Air Flow Sensor, but still no change.
Car still in limp home mode. Engine Service urgent message indicated. Any ideas what my problem could be. Since it is in limp mode I don't feel comfortable trying to driving it to a shop and I'm not close enough to an Autozone, etc. to have codes read. I'd love to fix it myself, but I've pretty much changed all the indicated problems that I see on the forum (ETM, Coils, plugs, MAF, Fuel Filter.)
Thanks for your input.

Check the ETM loom for voltage. Thick green and brown wires are power at the ETM connector (12V and earth) Do you have a test light or meter?
If no power to the loom ETM will cause limp home mode. If it's a non turbo you can remove the rubber hose going to the ETM and see if the throttle flap is moving while the accelerator pedal is pressed. You should use an assistant to do this as the ETM should make a noise and be responsive for about 6 seconds after the ignition is turned on.
