1998 V70r - Torque App - O2 sensor readings

Post by chexny »

Trying to figure out if my Cat/02 sensors are ok and mostly playing around with my new 'Torque' app. Did I do this wrong or is my Cat/02 sensor caput. I just passed emissions in Dec in CT but I dont think they measure emissions really. Mostly I think they just check for any codes. I did have a Pending P0422 Main Cat Bank 1 below threshold the first time I scanned the car which led to this testing but that code is gone now.

In any event please see the attached graph. Should the 02 volts for Bank 1 Senor 2 be reading closer to 1 and not tracking as closely as this seems to be. Note the car was warm after 20 minutes of highway driving. I recorded a 10 min clip this is just part of that data after I realized how much data I recorded.

Something doesn't look right. The bank 1 sensor looks ok, good swinging of voltage, but bank 1 sensor 2 is really fluctuating more than it should relative to sensor 1. At first glance, I'd say the CAT is going south. There are remedies to try and clean it if it isn't coming apart inside. Google around for the lacquer thinner method and even a soap and water trick (tough on the volvo cat though).

Check here too, there's one cleaning method the essentially was forcing the engine to run lean and get the cat super hot to burn off crap. A good run at high speed with some magic cat fix in-a-can might help too.

Thanks. I saw the lacquer thinner trick. And I saw that Robert did it as well. Not sure I can pour lacquer thinner into my car especially since I have 18+months until my next emissions test. I would rather try some snake oil from autozone. But I am not super worried about it right now. Just wanted to see if I was reading this right.

I did the autozone snake oil on an old mazda that flunked its test and was able to get it assed just by doing that, Lucas brand comes to mind.
