ABS Light -- Any to turn it off???

Post by wesspen »

Is there any way to disable the ABS light on a 1998 S70 T5? The dealership has tried to fix it, but has had no luck. I'd like to just disable the light and be done with it.

Thank you!

Lights mean a code or codes have been set by the diagnostic system, which in turn is triggered by out-of-bounds readings from sensors. ABS, Check Engine, it's all the same theory.

With that in mind, has your dealer told you the codes, or at least what they mean? Clearing a code won't help if the problem isn't fixed.

As for disabling the light, that has been discussed several times, but I can't remember if anyone had sucess. Part of the problem is you have to dig in the dash to get to the lights, and if you remove a bulb you may trigger the bulb light  .

So -- you'd be best off knowing what the real problem is first, then deciding to disable the light or not.

I have a 1998 c70 that had the same problem. The dealer had problem fixing it, he changed the abs sensor first, but the real problem was the abs module (very expensive 500$ can. aprox.) The problem has to be fix since it is link to your abs.... when the light is on the abs and traction control are not functionnal, anyway not on my car!

Oh yea, this latest post reminded me -- I've heard the light can come on due to dirty sensors, which I've also heard are not that hard to locate and clean. You might try that.

I also had this problem. If the car is still under warranty the dealer's service dept. should replace the ABS computer as they were known to be faulty. I had mine done.
