When I depress the brake pedal it goes to the floor. Master Cylinder is full and there are no leaks. Also when sitting at idle the engine starts to sputter. It does not matter if it is in gear or not, when I release the pedal the engine goes back to normal.

Sounds like a brake booster problem.

Perhaps a vacuum leak in the brake booster and air in the brake fluid. When/how did this start happening?

You state that it goes to the floor. Does it really go to the floor where pedal is touching carpet or does it just go down an inch or more past initial point where pressure is felt?
