Hi enthusiasts,
I have a rear passenger window that went down, but not back up. Removed door panel and tested switch, it supplies power in both directions. I can hear the motor and a "click" when pressed in down position, but nothing in the up position. Help would be appreciated.
Jeff

if you know the motor is getting current from the switch on both directions then chances are the motor is bad. You can try hitting the up position on the button and tapping on the motor and it may work. If it does then the motor has a bad spot.

Probably not. The motors rarely fail.
The switches, however, are notorious.
The power AND ground travel through
both the master and local switches.
To check the motor, unplug the local switch,
identify the two leads that connect directly to
the motor and supply 12 volts and ground.
Reverse polarity to run it the other way.

Jeff... to check the motor properly you needed to push the switch first then tap on the motor otherwise you don't know if its the switch or the motor. If you can verify your getting current from the master switch down to the motor both directions and you have to tap on the motor to get it to work then its probably the motor otherwise the switch. Basically its the same trick to check a starter motor...

I respectfully disagree.
Check systems one step at a time -
The fewer components tested at a time,
the more efficient your trouble shooting will be.
As long as both parts are involved, you can't be sure which is bad.
Isolating the motor by completely disconnecting it from the power
window system and providing known good power and ground directly
to it will eliminate any doubt about the motor's condition.

On mine, replacing the master switch fixed my rear window issues. I got a very cheap new switch on Amazon and it works fine a year later. I also did as BEJinFbk mentioned with an old modem power supply for 12V.
