Hello Volvo Gods,
Within the last year or so, I began noticing oil spray from the timing belt side of my engine. Thinking this was not good, and just about being due for a timing belt change, I brought it to a local Volvo shop. Simply by looking at the engine, the mechanic told me I needed CVVT hubs replaced, along with the timing belt assembly. One of the biggest symptoms I began noticing was a whine coming from the engine when it got to normal running temps, and when I pulled the dipstick (when running) it would release pressure and the whine would go away.
My question is, does this sound like a CVVT hub issue, and what is a average estimate for something like that to be replaced? Thanks in advance!!

The whine is the crankcase vent system box. It is part of the oil filter housing. Call a volvo dealer with your complete VIN and check to see if it is under the campaign. Some have an extended warranty to replace that part.
The CVVT hubs could be leaking or it could be the cam seals behind them. The O rings on the front of the CVVT units is not serviced by volvo so if it leaks there you will need to replace them.
