Putting new A pillar in. Air bag concern

Post by jtp »

95 850 turbo wagon
I wanted to take out my old A pillar because I put a boost gauge in it and I'm returning the car to stock. Really straight forward until I peaked behind the B pillar and there is a large red tab over where the A pillar screws in.

Basically, I can't get the A pilllar out without doing something to this red tab.

It is the only red tab in there which makes me think it is red for a reason. Anyone know if this is airbag related and, if so, how to get around it to install the new A pillar?

I am going to assume that you are talking about the A pillar trim rather than the structural member itself. There really isn't anything there at the point where the trim meets the B pillar trim that will get you in trouble. There is a SRS trigger on the seat belt so don't unplug that or, if you do, disconnect the battery first.

That red tab is just used to keep the front trim and the rear trim firmly in place behind the trim piece for the B pillar. It has nothing to do with the side airbags. Those are located in the actual seats and the triggers for them are in the bottom of the seats. You have nothing to worry about.

Yeah don't worry about that bag. It's triggered by side impact or too much of a pull on a seat belt. (Iirc)
