03 2.5 bad wheel vibration
Hi all,Ii recently developed a really bad vibration coming from the front of the car when accelerating above 40 mph. It usually starts right at 60 mph though. As soon as I let off the gas pedal it goes away immediately. On ramps are next to impossible due to the car shaking all over. I'm stumped here. I've read posts on here where people have described similar vibration due to bad wheel bearings but i can't imagine that's the case. I've had the tires balanced twice now and it's still there. The guy who balanced the tires told me I needed an inner tie rod end and that's what was causing the vibration (which I highly doubt) then when i went out to look at it the other guy putting the tire back on said it's not a tie rod end, it's a lower ball joint causing the problem. Now I don't see any signs of needing either of these parts unless the vibration really is coming from there but I've never seen or heard of this before. Anyone have a similar problem?
Got any pics as to what went bad on the shaft. My '05 2.5 was doing something similar but after getting new tires it went away. Still a slight shimmy but guy at Firestone said it was the rotors. The rotors are less than a year old and they feel ok.

If it is torque related, then this could be either the CV joint or the axle bearing. (Only the RH side has one that supports it half-way between the transaxle and the CVJ.)
Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.

is it making a howling noise at speed? if you jack it so that the wheel is off the ground grab the wheel and try and rock side to side (as if you are trying to turn a corner) and then the same action against the top and bottom of the wheel - play here (and/or noise) would indicate hub bearing. The CV shaft (joints) unless the boot it split and the grease came out, chances are that it is not the issue. While you are over there - take a look at the strut - is it leaking? if so the failed strut could be your cause (this is the issue that I am having now).
