Service Light can't be turned off by dealer Topic is solved

I took my 2002 S40 to the dealer this weekend for its 82,500 service (I drive a lot!). The mechanic was unable to turn off the service light and said that I might need an new instrument cluster which would cost me around $1,500. Thinking that this was a joke (3 weeks ago, I paid over $800 for new sensors and a Fuel Pressure Regulator), they said they weren't kidding.

Anyone know what else might be troubling my service light? It came on about 500 miles before it should have (around the 82K mark), and they told me when I got there, that its timed to come on after its last reset, so since I had my previous service done early, it came on early.

I refuse to pay $100 for a computer to give me an answer

Try this

1. Hold down the odometer button
2. Turn the ignition so all the lights come on
3. Keep holding the odometer down for 30 secs or until the service light starts flashing
4. Release the odometer button while service light flashing
5. Turn off and on again to check
