1997 850 t5 solid arrow

I was dealing with an intermittent issue with the trans sticking in limp mode, including the occasional flashing arrow, and surging idle, accompanying the flickering of the sport/econ mode lights. I cleaned up the pnp, which seemed to help for a few days, but eventually the problem escalated to the solid light on the dash mentioned above. The only thing I did other than cleaning up the pnp, was draining some of the trans fluid, step one of the three recommended. I have since installed an oem replacement pnp, and drained the trans for a second time. The car started without incident, but quickly reverted to it's former condition. While I have encountered several threads pertaining to the flashing arrow, I have only found one referring to a solid arrow, which was not the same issue, as the one mentioned did not involve any issues with the trans being stuck in any one particular gear. I would appreciate any guidance available, thanks in advance.

On a new to me 850 I got two weeks ago I had some similar issues. Flashing arrow, limp mode, Econ/sport light and Cel. I disconnected the ABS module and all of these problems went away. Of course the ABS light came on, but car and transmission operated perfectly, no limp mode.

Usually the solid arrow indicates that winter mode has been selected. The switch is subject to about the same amount of coffee and soda pop spills as is the window switches so that might be a place to start.
