98 S70 Charcoal canister loose?

Post by mar601 »

I've been getting the P0442 and 0445 codes -- put on new gas cap and understand it maybe one of the 2 hoses leading to the canister, so I ordered those but I also reached down there and the canister can wiggle a bit. Not good? Didn't readily see but is there a way to tighten the canister or is wiggling normal?

thanks.

If it is the front cannister, which from your description I think it is, it is held in place with a giant hose clamp. They do come loose and on my S70 the clamp fell completely off. I used a couple of really big zip ties to secure it back.

If you can get to the head on the hose clamp you should be able to snug it up but just being a little bit loose doesn't really hurt anything.

thanks -- I have a T5 so I bet I hit something. yes, it's on the front -- thanks.

130k on the car. do these need to be replaced? I bought the 2 hoses to replace them and put on a new gas cap. get occasional codes.

In the "Lets see your Volvo Forum" Ben posted a pic of his newest acquisition that has the front fender off - you can see the canister and mount pretty clearly.

I knew that would be useful... :-)
