1984 Volvo 242 DL Extension Housing Seal Replace

Post by Dome »

Has anyone replaced the extension housing seal for an Automatic Transmission?

Base on the instructions from my Haynes manual it seems that a complete transmission fluid drain isn't essential? #4 just mentions a drain pan seemingly to catch some overflow after removing the flange.

Can you see anything missing on these instructions?

Thanks!

Look at that drive-line nut and determine if its a left or right hand thread.

Volvo shop manual (TP30578-1_automatic_transmissions_bw55_aw55_aw70_aw71.pdf) shows a pic where it is turned clockwise, and then it notes 45-Nm

It looks like an easy job, if you have that holding tool, and something the right size to install new seal.
