1998 C70 Opening trunk when battery dead
Anybody know a way to open the trunk of a '98 C70 coupe when the battery is dead or disconnected? My battery is actually fine but it is disconnected while I replace the dash and I don't want to connect it because that would set the SRS error.

Can you go through the back seat and do a kidnap release trick on the latch?

Pull fuse 11C1 then with a spare battery connect the neg to the car and pos to where fuse 11C1 should be, one side of this fuse goes straight to the solenoid to unlock / release the trunk - Mike
Be sure to use the correct side terminal, otherwise you could back-feed voltage to the system and trigger that bag light.mikealder wrote:Pull fuse 11C1 then with a spare battery connect the neg to the car and pos to where fuse 11C1 should be, one side of this fuse goes straight to the solenoid to unlock / release the trunk - Mike

One side of 11C1 is fed from an output on the central locking control module the other side goes to the solenoid so even feeding a voltage down the wrong terminal of the fuse won't live up any other circuits as they are not connected to this fuse - Mike

Doesn't the trunk release work with ignition off? I would take a good look at the wiring diagram and make sure that the 12V is isolated, given that it is a 100 USD mistake ....

The fuse trick is something worked out by studying the Volvo wiring diagrams and has worked on the two occasions I have had to use it, no reason to have the ignition key anywhere near the car and certainly not in the ignition switch - Mike

Thanks for tip on pulling fuse 11C1 and powering up the lock mechanism without powering up anything else. Nice solution to the problem.
You'd think Volvo would have designed the key mechanism on the trunk so that it was capable of manually unlocking the the trunk, allowing you to get at your jumper cables which you keep stored in the trunk. The solution to that problem is to position the jumper cables in the trunk so they can be reached from the back seat when sticking your arm through the tunnel between the trunk and the rear seat.
