buffing out paint

are volvos single stage or 21 stage? can they be buffed out? i have a97 850 glt.

Mine has a base coat (nautical blue) and a clearcoat on top of that.

Depends on the color. In 97, Red and I think White too was still single stage.
(BTW, the color is NAUTIC blue not NautiCAL blue)

mine is black. i also took a close look and i think its a 2 stage. it looks like the clear is coming up on the roof. can you guys please verify this. if it can be buffed out, i would like to do this to make my 97 a little bit better looking.

You can buff the clearcoat to remove any MINOR scratches or blemishes but it won't do anything for the areas where the clearcoat has come off.

You can get an area repainted for a couple of hundred bucks if it's bad and you can't live with it any longer. Competent places will be able "feather in" the repainting and you won't be able to tell. I've use "Colors on Parade," with good results. Look them up on the internet and find one near your location.
