2004 V70 Can I ADD Factory Fog Lamps?

Post by goldmandan »

I am going to be changing out the wiper washer pump which requires me to remove the front bumper. At the same time i'd like to know if it's possible to add factory fog lamps as ours didn't come with it. I did notice there were plugs behind the bumper which I suspect are for the fog lamps. AND if it IS possible. Then I did see there is a space in the dash next to the rear fog lamp switch where another switch is possible to be put in. Is that where the original one would go? If so, is there a plug behind that space where a switch could go?

Any help is really appreciated!

I researched this, and the problem here will be the software "upgrade" required to support the switch, which you certainly can buy and install, and click the relay, which is certain to be already wired, and the lights which you can connect to the already in-place harness.

The switch merely tells the computer to command the relay, which carries the current to the fog lamps.
Your computer knows nothing of fog lamps unless the dealership educates it.
I'm surprised that there is no open-source software for Volvos by now, but life is short, and aftermarket fog lamps are cheap.
1982 240DL: Drove it 32 years and 1.5 million miles (sold, even still had mint leather!)
2001 v70 2.4T: The most expensive $1500 car I ever bought ("Volvo Turbo" - what an oxymoron!) (sold)
2004 v70: Far less fatally-flawed v70 - It served well (sold)
2010 v50: Smaller, slightly sportier wagon. Its got a spoiler, so I upgraded with sway bars!

If you can find a complete kit, the car is pre-wired and the install is not that hard
You DO need to go to a Volvo dealer and pay for some software to activate them
