1996 850 Turbo Wagon PAG oil type 46 or 100

Post by Ben850 »

As the title says. I know it depends on which compressor I have. I would like a general consensus for the '96 model year if possible.
I am finishing the accumulator replacement tomorrow after finally fixing an intermittent power issue with the ECC unit.

I have seen a few arguments about PAG oil and " generic" PAG oil.

I plan on looking for some discerning markings or label on the compressor, but it was very hot, and I was beaten by the large coupling side of the accumulator.

I have charts to correlate the viscosity to unit, but is anyone aware of the most commonly installed compressors in '96?

The viscosity will be either 46 or 100.

A quick answer would be good, but I can take a closer look at the compressor for an indication tomorrow.

My buddies home made vacuum pump crapped out on me so I borrowed one from Autozone.
$155. deposit that I got back when I returned it.

I had a little trouble getting the quick release coupling from the dryer to snap all the way, but got it.

All seems good with the new accumulator and 4 oz. of PAG 46. Nice and cold.

The turbo wagon will get its first road trip next week first from here to just below the Ohio border. Then the next day ,will be literally from the bottom to the top of Michigans lower peninsula to St. Ignace, MI in the upper peninsula across the Macinaw bridge.
With air the whole way hopefully.
