1986 740 GLE automatic transmission won't shift cold

Transmission started this lately. When cold (-10 C), the transmission will not shift out of low gear for quite some time (varies from time to time). Once it does shift up, the transmission works normally. Aprox. 180,000 K on car. Fluid level is good. ?? Thanks

When was the last time you changed the transmission filter? An obstructed filter can cause the transmission to stick in low when cold. I would suggest a fuild and filter change for the transmission.
