Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

2007 Volvo S80 Snow Chains question

Post by sandyegg »

Hello all,
Can anyone tell me if I can use non-OEM snow cables or chains on my 2007 S80 3.2, and what the problems might be if using them? Called the dealer and he wants to sell me some for over $400.
Thanks!

I considered getting some but after talking with my local tire dealer I was stopped. He looked up my S-80 and said he couldn't sell them to me because of safety issues. There was a notation in his manual saying "N.A." * And the asterisk led to something about fit being a problem. I know nothing else and I ended up buying some great winter tires.

Thanks for the reply, SimLyons. I ended up buying cable-type chains designed for super-tight clearances (meets SAE Class "S" clearance requirements) and will only put them on if it's a matter of dealing with extremely hazardous conditions. The ones I bought for my 3.2 S80 were the SCC Z-chain Z-555 and I got them from www.vulcantire.com. Hopefully they'll work ok if I ever have to put them on!
