1995 850 wiper/horn fuse blowing

Post by grahamsdriving »

I have an 1995 850 which has done 84,000 miles. I have a wiper/horn fuse which blows when the car is left for a while (a couple of hours ) I replace the fuse then the wipers work with no problem until I park. I have replaced the fuse a couple of times locked the car, opened the car, started the engine, turned off the engine, and the fuse is fine until I walk away for a couple of hours then the fuse is blown again.
Any help would be great Thanks.

There is probably a loose wire that is touching somewhere, and shorting out. If it happens with the key out, then it is in the terminal 15? (unswitched, 12 VDC) side of one of these circuits

Which fuse is it, by number?

Hi its number 34 a 25 amp fuse. Could the short be on another circuit?

The horn circuit is the likely culprit. Horns usually are wired 12 V hot, and the steering wheel pad grounds them. I thought, however, this is a keyed circuit.

We will have to find a wire diagram to help here. We aren't allowed to host these here, but if someone can find an external link, we can post it.

I think the problem might be with the washers. I replaced the fuse and the wipers worked until I used the washer now the fuse blows as soon as I replace it. I will have good look today. The horn circuit is hot.

Try unplugging the washer motor and seeing if that stops the fuse from blowing.

Hi everyone, I am mostly a lurker and a very big fan of this site. I have learned a lot on here already so thanks!

I too am having this exact same issue, the washer pump being disconnected stopped the fuse from blowing. One weird thing is for the first time since this has been happening, trying to isolate the issue I managed to get the 'washer spraying won't stop' problem happened where before I couldn't get the pump to activate with the steering column switch.

Could that be the issue? Thanks again!
