Sounds like the MAF sensor reading is higher than normal and/or air leaks. Check air intake ducts and hoses. Have the shop chech MAF reading against spec.

you mention a map sensor was replaced, did you meant maf? volvo is sensitive to this sensor, original volvo part should be used (even a used one off Ebay should be fine)
