2001 s60 Replaced brake booster "Check brake lights"

Post by swinnet »

So I just replaced my brake booster, as I was getting a hissing sound while brake pedal was released. The replacement went fine but I forgot to adjust the brake light switch after the install. I got back under the dash and pulled the switch out until it was depressed by the brake lever. Now all the brake lights work and they are off while the brake pedal isn't depressed. However, whenever I press the brake I get a message say "check brake lights." Does anyone have any idea why this is or how to fix it? as far as I can tell everything is working properly. I just keep getting the message. Thanks for the help!

Did you swap the brake pedal position sensor from the old booster to the new one? If so did you replace the o ring seal?

I did not change out the brake pedal position sensor. The new booster already had one in place. I just plugged into the new one without any other work done with it. Should I have changed it out? Could that cause the brake light sensor to trip?
