2004 Volvo C70 Meyle tie rod ends question

Post by brick8 »

In the process of doing deferred maintenance on my "new" C70. I bought the Meyle tie rod ends from fcp and noticed that there was some grease leaking out of the boots. Is that normal? The joints on them really didn't feel much stiffer than the old tie rod ends that I removed.

If you squeeze the boots and greese comes out, then the elements would be getting in and you will lose those joints in a short order. (I suppose these are the outer tierods)
Yes, the boots on these like on the lower BJs should feel pretty stout - if otherwise, they won't pass (my) inspection :D
Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.
Disclaimer: We (very) seldom do that

I can't speak to the Meyle tie rod ends, but the Volvo blue box outer tie rods that I put in about a year ago were not leaking any grease.
I installed a pair of Meyle "HD" anti-sway bar end links about three years ago, and my memory is that they were not leaking grease either.
1997 855 GLT (Light Pressure Turbo) still going strong. Previous: 1986 240 GL rusted out in '06, 1985 Saab 900T rusted out in '95, 1975 Saab 99 rusted out in '95, 1973 Saab 99 rusted out in '94
