'04 V70 Alarm "Chirps" - Was my alarm system modified?

Hello. I bought my '04 V70 used, and ever since I bought it, the horn beeps loudly ("chirps") whenever I activate or deactivate the alarm system (lock or unlock the doors). I haven't read of anyone else ever getting an alarm chirp on a Volvo. I am wondering if the alarm system was modified. Has anyone else ever gotten this chirp when locking/unlocking the car? It is very annoying and I'd like to see if I can turn it off. Any help is appreciated.
