92 240 wagon intermittent reverse light

Post by martz »

Hello am new to the forum and seeking to get some advice on troubleshooting a reverse light problem on my 240 auto wagon. Before anything else I did try searching and could not find any specific thread/s pertaining my issue.

Problem is, it is an intermittent problem or should I say depending on where the shift lever is positioned on R the reverse lights will work. There is a play of probably 1/4 of an inch when lever is shifted to R and when moving it on this quarter inch play , lights will work when it is closer to the Park mode. I find myself having always to do this though " moving it front and back" just for it to function.

Any guidance or input on what to check and or replace would be greatly appreciated .thanks
Marty

sounds like adjustment screws on park safety switch loose, or you need a re adjustment and tightening. Remove shifter cover, two screws in front. Look to the right side of shifter box, you will see a black assm'y with a pin from the shifter inserted into a white housing in assm'y. Two adjustment screws to the right. Move assm'y foward or back and tighten when it is right, good luck.
