Hey guys,
Last weekend I was t-boned at an intersection when some dick on his cell phone ran through the stop sign. Just the body repair will be more that the worth of my car which was set at $4750. This includes replacing the rear passenger door and working out some pretty serious crumpling on the quarter panel. There is also something wonky going on with the rear wheel/suspension where he hit me. It could be a strut, control arm or many other things. So I am 99% sure the insurance company will total it. So here is the question. What should I do? Part of me wants to try and save my baby, but I don't really think this is realistic and I don't want to be that guy driving around in a smashed up car especially considering how cherry she is except for where the guy hit me. Part of me whats to take the money and forget it ever happened. And the middle road would be to take the money, keep the car and part it out, but I don't think I could stand doing that. So what is everybody's experience regarding these situations?
Thanks guys,
J

I could ask the body shop to take some. I have been avoiding looking at/taking pics because it is just too hard. Lol. I started going through the road trip pics with my girl because she hadn't seen mine and I had to stop...but if it would help identify whether I should try to fix it I will. I think the suspension problem should be easy to sort out ( I hope) It is the body damage that is the killer. Also I have no idea what kind of shape the frame is in.

Being a cherry T-5, you could start a swap project if it suits you. Find another, as long as the frame is straight, and go from there. Or take the money and start shopping! Good luck however you go.

Ok, Here are some pics.
I have some pics of the suspension, but I don't think they will be of any use in diagnosing the problems. There is a lot of creaking and rubbing when driven. Anyway there are some pics. It is hard to believe that what looks to be not all that much damage would cost so much to fix. I should have some video of the incident sometime nest week from a CCT cam on the corner.

You're right, it doesn't look that bad.
I feel for you, TA. You loved that car. And you put the best parts into it. All premium/OEM blue box parts. Ugh.
Let me/us know what happens. Call me if I can help.

Hey guys,
Sorry for not keeping up on this thread. I have been out of town on work. Anyway after talking to the insurance people they are going to make me a pretty nice deal. I certainly won't break even with all the work I have put into it. But after the bank is payed back for my rest of my loan I will walk with around $3,500 and I will be sitting on 4 very nice Comets with new Nitto Motivo rubber on them. I know it is nearly a damning sin to send one of these to the yard, but it just doesn't make much sense to try and get her back to where she was. I am probably going to take the money, feel really really bad, look for and buy a V70R or an S60R and feel much better. The hardest part will be holding out for a good example with a manual trans. Hey Matt, or anyone else for that matter, gimme a holler if anything sweet floats over your radar. Thanks guys.
