Got a cracked/busted header down pipe. Looks like it has the ERG setup. When I look around to buy this front pipe, my model and year are conspicuously missing from all available exhaust parts lists. Am I missing something? Like does an 89 244 fit, or is there some other work around?
I appreciate any advice from you guys.
Thanks
I'm new to Volvos, (inherited an 89 six months ago with 105k miles, next week I'm getting a 91 turbo) so looks like I'm into Volvos for a while now!

Terminology is very important. I have looked up a part for the exhaust header.Brickhaus66 wrote:Got a cracked/busted header !
See photo here, and the relevant question is, is it number 2, or 3, or 4.
I have no idea if yours could be welded

I would guess you have one just like this replacement from FCP. Make sure the catalytic converter flange is the same - there are two types: fixed (requires triangular gasket), or rotatable (requires metal donut seal - this is most likely what you have).
They have a great return/refund policy, too.

So are you saying that the '89 240DL is the same as the '89 242, 44, and 45?

This is my guess too. I have looked at this FCP link before. The picture looks like my part.mtd240 wrote:I would guess you have one just like this replacement from FCP. What's throwing me is at the bottom of that page, it does not list the 240 as one of models that it fits! The lowest model number the header pipe will fit is 244 for an '89, they say a 240 fit for a 1990 year, but my 240 in an 89.
The return policy is a great piece of knowledge. If I can't find an exact fit guarantee (model and year--which I have not so far) somewhere else, I may gamble by ordering it and seeing if it will fit.
Flange: I know that spin or fixed is important. How can you tell the difference? Mine looks like it is separate from the pipe. It's raised with a fine space around the pipe diameter, and not appear to be welded or shaped on the end, but there is no ring seal backing it up.

The answer is: 4. Is there a difference in the gasket between the manifold and the manifold down pipe that I am replacing, depending on where the ERG goes? Or some other reason?
On the cat side it looks to me like a spin flange. Manifold side, it's pin bolt and gasket. Man, am I going to have to soak this part in PB Blaster!
