1998 S70 GLT - What is this cylinder under the battery tray?

Post by ashyu »

I had pulled out the battery tray today while replacing the starter, and I noticed this cylinder underneath it with an unnatural looking hole at the bottom corner. I was wondering if someone might be able to tell me what it is and if it is important to replace?

I haven't seen any check engine lights come on recently (although a while back I did have a small evap leak code, which I had reset and tried resetting the gas cap; but am still waiting for the car to go through its drive cycles).

That is the vacuum pump for the cruise control. Presumably the cruise doesn't work on this car?
