Hi -
I have read most if not all of the posts that define the type of problem I am having and I plan on pursuing a couple of the ideas tomorrow. Thanks in advance if the question below creates a recall of a similar situation in your experiences.
One day after an 1+ hour drive the car would not crank (weak battery) but would start with a jump but when the cables were removed the engine cut out.
Removed/charged and replaced the battery. Replaced the alternator with a known good one from a donor car. Same thing. Looked all over the engine compartment for broken wires poor ground, etc but no luck.
Then the engine would not start. It cranked really healthy but wouldn't catch! With the initial diagnosis I could hear the familiar sign of the Fuel Pump Relay click but I now I noticed I no long hear it when I move the ignition switch to the 'on position'.
I replaced the fuel pump relay. Same problem. So - I have read through the posts and it seems like I might have a poor ground or I might have one of the bad ECU's (Pink Label). Tomorrow I will try to jump the green/blue wire to a good ground. I also have an ECU from a 1991 240 DL that I will swap.
Do you all agree I might have a grounding issue in the Fuel Pump Relay or with the ECU.
Again, appreciate your help.
John

How to "JUMP" the fuel pump circuit from your Volvo 240 fuse panel: and then try to start it.

Thanks for the references. I will go through the relays this weekend as it appears this may be the root cause of problems that have been lingering with the car since I bought it.
I jumped position 4 to position 6 on the fuse panel. I heard the fuel pump running this time but no luck with getting it to start. Will go back to the basic troubleshooting like spark at the plugs.

On return side of fuel pressure regulator, there is a hose that can be removed; remove it, and get another hose to hook into it, so that fuel could be dumped into a "coke bottle." With engine cold, have someone hold the coke bottle, while you engine fuel pump...any fuel?casadontej wrote:fuel pump running
