1994 960 3ltr 24v Lambda warning lamp

Post by father ted »

I have recently found that the lambda light on the dash is lighting for no apparent reason. On checking the obd as prescribed it gives up no fault codes. On resetting the obd in the prescribed way the warning lamp go's out and the car runs perfectly. Having said that the car runs perfectly with the lambda lamp on and shows no issues at all but then its not there for nothing, something must be causing this glitch. The only difference in lamp on/lamp off modes seems to be a slight drop in revs when idling, maybe a hundred revs lower when lamp is on. I replaced oxygen sensor two thousand miles ago and has run with no issues up till now. After maybe a hundred miles or so the lamp will light again but after checking no fault codes are present and resetting clears the problem giving no clue as to why this is happening. Anybody out there had this and where should i start looking. Thanks folks.

Have you been driving within the Twilight Zone?

I'm not familiar with your vehicle's electronics, but

1. Emission Related Sensors (O2, temperature, etc) - I would suggest unhooking them and cleaning them with an electrical contact cleaner, let dry, then apply a coating of di-electric grease on male-terminals and female ends; then plug back together.

Thanks for the input my friend, gonna get right on that and check all the associated wiring. I remember now that i had to splice the new oxygen sensor into the existing wiring loom at that time as it came with a slightly different plug/terminal and although it worked it may have become victim to undercar conditions and deteriated. Cheers.
