The car was running fine. My 960 stalled at a red light so I reved a little and continued to the next light I bumped it into neutral and reved it and it stalked and quit. I tried to re crank it and something was spinning but very quietly. My son popped the hood and looked as I cranked again. The serpentine was spinning but the car didn't crank. It sounds like a motor sound when the starter is spinning but not engaging.
Maybe a coincidence but it is out of water be cause of a water hose that runs over to the housing that the oil filter screws into. A few miles before the breakdown I scraped leaving a driveway and nicked the hose and didn't know it.
Any help would be great as this is my only vehicle and I need to get to work Monday morning.
Stalled and won't crank

Loss of compression due to huge crack in head or block due to overheating due to coolant loss?
The sound you describe reminds me of the sound the engine makes when I crank it with most spark plugs removed to check for compression.

YMMV, but when an engine shows signs of "dying," tow it home, or where-ever. On vehicles with INTERFERENCE ENGINES, thou shalt not crank/crank/crank until timing belt inspection.Thelollypop wrote:I cranked again.
Cranking a dead engine never brings it back...trust me!

Crank, crank, crank on an interference engine will cause even more destruction of said engine.93Regina wrote:YMMV, but when an engine shows signs of "dying," tow it home, or where-ever.
