No Start After Head Gasket Replacement

Post by rstewart4328 »

I just had to replace the head gasket on my 2001 v70 xc. I have done head gaskets on other vehicles with no issues. I didn't realize that these cars didn't have cam retainers so needles to say I took of the valve cover and one of the cams popped up so I took it out and set it to the side. When it came time for reassembly I put the cam back down and me and another person tightened down the valve cover at the same time. Where we had set the cam in was pretty close but not exact. So I turned it to where it was. When I timed it I lined up both can marks and the crank marks, then finally got the tensioner figured out. It really looks like it is timed perfect. Still won't start.
Only code was for a cam sensor which I think was there before we started the job. But seeing the code just made me look and I noticed the cam sensor wasn't hooked up. So I put it back in and bolted it on. I erased the code and still won't start.

Now I'm not sure if this is relevant to the not starting issue but the coolant is now leaking as well. It is coming from a line that goes to the turbo on the back of the motor. There is a little o ring on the line and it pushes into another metal line. I just can't seem to get it pushed back in correctly. I just figured I'd get to that after I hear the car start. Problem is the water leaks out faster than I can fill it. So my question here is about the coolant level sensor. Will the reservoir being empty cause the car to not start?
I obviously wouldn't run the car with no water but I wanted to hear it run for a second before going further.

Also, here are my compression readings. Considering I don't have any cylinders with no compression I believe that the cam timing is fine. Seems like if any valves were open at the wrong times, it would have no compression.

I also do know for a fact there's only 1 gallon of gas in it. But when I unhook the fuel line from the fuel rail and turn it over gas pours out. So I'm sure it's getting gas. I also checked for spark and saw the plug sparking.
Any help is appreciated. I need to get this car ruining again for my wife to drive

Could it be as simple as just adding more fuel? I thought about doing the oil in the cylinders trick but my weakest cylinder has 115 psi. And I didn't think that was bad

Also, with the fuel line disconnected from the rail, gas does not come out pig the line with the key on. Only while cranking. But the plugs are wet

Yes it is cranking. When I took the head off I didnt unplug each coil. I just took them off the valve cover and flipped the harness over to the side. And they go back on in the order that they come out pig the wiring harness.

When it is crankinG sometimes it sounds like it is about to start. Like it catches fire for a brief second.

Also, when the key is turned on I can hear a high pitch ringing noise coming from right under the intake manifold. But when I put my ear to the fuel fill spout with the cap off I don't hear anything. Where is the relay for the in tank fuel pump?
