Hello all,
haven`t been on the site in a while but now that my trusted manual 2004 v70 t5 had a close encounter with the rear bumper of a tractor trailer combination I am in the market for a new (used) Volvo.
More specifically we are looking at a XC70, starting in 2008 but preferably 2009. Could probably go up to a 2010. My questions are the following
1. Which engine to get or which engine to AVOID
2. Do these engine have a "timing belt" or similar issue
3. Trimlevels, are they easily identified. Is the dvd system worthwhile?
Ideally I would one with towing package. What could I realistically tow with a xc70?
Or maybe I could rephrase this whole thing and ask you: Which XC70 would you get if it had to be a 2010 or older with no more than 150.000km.
Tx for any replies and or pointers.
ps. Slightly damaged v70 up for grabs
2008+ XC70 Which one

can't offer too much, today going to look (and likely purchase) an '08 with 67000 on the clock. from the reading i've done, it appears the '08+ are proving to be reliable. i am looking at one with the n/a 3.2. i didn't really want to deal with a turbo. this motor has a timing chain, no belt. i like this.
in terms of trim levels, it has a climate and premium package. no dvd or bluetooth. i'll know more once i see it. i don't know if the dvd is worth the premium. we have a portable dvd we just strap to the headrests. now, my kids are more entertained with ipads when traveling.
in terms of towing, the manual for my '05 says max trailer weight w/o brakes is 1650, 3300 with brakes. this seems like a heavy load. personally, i don't think i would want to exceed about 1500. what are you towing?

Right now not towing anything besides the occasional trailer from homedepot but since we are looking into an xc90 or a xc70 we were wondering if
a small camper trailer would be feasible. Not talking these huge house on wheels but something more then a tent trailer.
wont reallly be a dealbreaker, just curious

we purchased the '08 and we are pretty happy. one issue, nothing i can do about, the n/a 3.2 is a bit of a dog compared to the 5 cyl lpt in my '05. not sure i would want to tow with this motor. also, i seem to have a bit of a "stutter" when shifting from 2 to 3, in man or auto mode. reading the forums at swedespeed and volvoxc, this seems to be common. overall, the finish is really nice with the premium and climate packages.
if you haven't, visit swedespeed and volvoxc. a lot more activity on the latest gen models.
