V50 Buying Advice - Which to get?

Post by lwood »

Hey all-

New to the forum. Never owned a Volvo myself but hope to soon.

I am looking for an opinion on this car:
2005 V5, 100k miles, $7,000, private party

I haven't seen it in person but owner says he's always taken care of services. They've owned for 2 years, bought it used from private party.

My concern is whether there will be a big service coming up at 105k miles and whether that should be a factor in me purchasing or not.

I am also considering a newer 2009 V5 with 45k miles, $14,000

or this 2007 V50, 90k miles, $7,000

I would like to keep my visits with mechanics to a minimum and I don't fix cars myself. Would love someone's expert opinion on whether getting the 2005 or 2007 is asking for trouble? Thanks!

Timing belt interval is 120000 miles OR 10 YEARS. 2015 will be 10 years. Ask the mechanic you will be using what his r&r timing belt charge will be. It will still be under the 2009 car! Filters, plugs, battery & trans flush are coming too.

OTOH, the 2009 probably has an AUX port for your tunes...
