Hello enthusiasts,
I have, or I should say, had, a near showroom condition 91 Volvo 240 SE wagon. White exterior with black leather interior. Long story short, I tracked down the guy who hit my parked darling daily driver and am in process of filing the claim through his insurance, Farmers. No unibody damage, just front passenger fender and some bumper items Moulding, clips, etc.) Farmers estimated the total body repairs at some 3K plus. Despite the fact that this is a cult collectable car and that I can prove comps on Ebay Motors showing the values, of course, they are going to total the car citing that the value of the vehicle itself deems repair not worthy. My car was worth between 6-7K easily before the hit, but the value will likely come in around 2K based on the resources the Insurance industry utilizes to estimate value. I intend to fight the value they are assigning to the car as it is not reflective of the marketplace on this vehicle. I need a certified car appraiser for this in Illinois. I am hoping to find one familiar with this classic and collectible car. Any suggestions here? Many thanks in advance. BTW: Car has been babied its whole life and runs like a champ. And outside of the fender blow, it's still a beauty.

You may wish to go to arbitration where you each pay for your own appraiser and half the cost of the referee. You can find independent appraisers in the phone book or internet. You may also find one by finding out who repairs the new Volvos/Bentleys and Mercedes and call and see if that's shops appraiser is licensed and agrees with your assessment.
You should gather your information on how you came up with 6-7K in value. Remember, the asking prices do not count. The actual sales prices do. You will need to show similarity with clear, recent pictures of your car for comparison against other cars whose value you are trying to show is the same as your. Mechanical condition, exterior condition and interior condition will be paramount. You also need to prove the odometer worked with oil change receipts ,registration etc showing the mileage was increasing over the years and most importantly, recently.
You may wish to post pictures here and get the forums opinion on value. I would take pictures of the interior, exterior from the 4 corners of the car and under the hood.
