1987 240 Motor mount replacement

Post by 2forty »

Lifting the motor suggestion. I watched videos concerning lifting the motor to replace the mounts. This is what I did. I purchased 2, 2x4x8' boards and fastened them together with two long screws, one on each end. I placed a rag on each fender then placed the board over the engine and drilled a hole where the engine lift on the engine is located. I purchased a long hook that is threaded and connected it to the engine lift and through the hole in the wood. I place two washers and a nut onto the threaded hook and hoisted my engine to replace the engine mounts. Worked great. Invested less then ten dollars at Home Depot. I replaced the drivers side first and took off the entire mount, replaced the engine mount then installed the entire unit. Easy. Then I did the passenger side. I removed the three nuts under the cross member, removed the engine mount bolts raised the engine until I could remove the bottom housing then replaced the engine mount. What seemed like a huge task was really easy and the method I used to raise and lower the engine really made it easy. Hope it helps you.

Hi there fellow volvo peeps. I did it exactly as described and I can't get the driver's side mount to line up with the engine. The engine holes angle away from the mount, vertically. I can get the bolt to go through the bracket but the angle won't allow me to thread it properly to the engine. Super frustrated in San Diego. Help!

I have used a cherry picker to just hold engine in place, with a pinch upward force. Using front lift point on engine...iirc, thermostat housing should have a lift bracket on it.
