1998 S70 T5 AC Line Replacement

Post by volvo_bruh »

Hi, I recently had to tow my T5 to my house to finish an alternator job and I hooked my chain up to the AC line instead of the tow point (stupid mistake i know). Does anyone know how to replace this line? It's the line that connects the compressor to the condenser. I found it on IPD for around $60. Another question, I had it towed behind my friend's pickup. I just hooked it up and put in nuetral. Will this still hurt the drivetrain? It was a 10 minute drive.

Replacing the line is fairly straight forward, it just bolts on at both ends and has O rings behind it.

Did the line burst? If so then you will need to add quite a bit of PAG oil to the system which you can do either before or after you draw the vacuum.

How fast did you tow it? Under 45 MPH for a few miles won't hurt anything. Over 45 MPH for a longer distance can do some damage.

The fluid (lubrication) in the automatic is circulated by the pump which is driven by the engine side. Although the output gears in the transaxle are essentially bathed in fluid there are parts of the transmission that continue to rotate with movement in neutral that get starved of lubrication without the engine running. Running clutch packs dry causes bad things to happen.

A FWD should be towed with the front wheels off the ground and an AWD must be towed with all four wheels off the ground. in the case of an AWD you can get buy with the short distance, under 45 mph, towing as long as all four wheels are on the ground. Towing an AWD by raising two wheels is instant death to the transfer case.

I towed it under 45 mph for a short distance. Thank you very much for the replies. I appreciate it.
