Air hose to ECU melted

Post by _squeezy »

The hose that leads the ECU under the hood has melted! It's pretty bad off, more or less nonfunctional. I took it to a Volvo place around here, they told me its nothing to worry about. Common sense tells us that heat is not good for electronics. I haven't come across anything on the net that I could replace it with. Any suggestions, or links? Thanks!

Are you talking about the accordian type one from the lid of the ECU to just below the radiator shroud? If so, I would get some cheap vauum cleaner hose and tape it up (duct tape fixes just about anything). Interestingly, air doesn't flow from the front of the car to that, but the other direction....weird isn't it?

So it blows air out of the front of the car? Definately weird. Anyway, thanks! I"ll be picking up some of the good metal duct tape so it wont melt.

Yes, it actually doesn't go to the front in a way that air can enter it. I was looking in VADIS the other day about mine (it came apart at the accordian part and I taped it) and read where the air enters the compartment from the rear....I did a double take. Not sure exactly where it's fed from but I suspect the cabin air or blower....yes, it is strange.
