Strange bearing question.

Post by Danella »

Everyone says the front bearing can not be changed (the whole hub has to be changed) but i've found the bearing at rock auto parts as a replacement part.

It is for volvo 850's.

Is there a way to just remove the bearing from the hub and replace it?

thnx guys.

"On these models, the bearings are not sold separately, you will have to purchase a new Hub that comes with the bearings installed"

That's the way it is !

AC delco is related to General Motors......and NO you can't remove it from the hub. What you see is not what you get on this site.

The picture of the bearing you posted is not even a sealed bearing unit. Even if the bearing could be removed (which it can't) the bearing you referenced is not the correct part. Order the correct part from FCP and call it a day.

Bearings have 2 raceways. In the case of this front hub, the outer race way is a machined surface of the hub itself. The rest of the bearing is separate but cannot be replaced. You have to buy the whole hub assembly. It's a good idea because it saves weight and creates a very reliable wheel bearing. The cost is not that much either. I would replace both at the same time.

And by the way your question isn't strange at all. There are many parts out there that are no where near the right item for what you need. Mistakes happen in inventory management. You did the right thing checking it out here first.
