Lately my Turbo 850 has been leaking oil from the intercooler piping. The leaks I've identified seem to be coming from two areas. One is where the lower intercooler piping where the flexible piping meets the intercooler. The second area is where the fresh air intake hose goes into the turbo; nearby the PTC area.
Oddly enough the oil leak doesn't happen each time I drive the car. If I go to work and leave in the afternoon I don't see oil left behind on the pavement. The car has been more likely to leak oil when it's in the garage overnight. But I don't think it leaks every night. Whether or not it will leak seems to depend if I took the car on the interstate that day or the engine RPMs went above 3,000 revs. If I drive normally on side streets (revs below 3,000) without going on the interstate, oil doesn't leak from the intercooler piping.
In the past two weeks an oil change was done. The turbo shaft end play felt acceptable when I last checked. The engine runs great with plenty of power and doesn't smoke; also the oil level doesn't seem to change greatly. The PCV system has been replaced with OEM Volvo parts about 6,000 miles ago.
I would like to fix the leaks, but I'm not sure if the turbo oil seals are going bad or if it could be something else.
Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated!
Thanks!
