1998 v70 Alternator Control ?

Hello there,

Recently someone suggested another parts site for this car.
I was looking around for prices on various parts just to see how they compare to other sites, and i find that there is a 'voltage regulator' sold for this car, that is separate from the alternator.

Does this voltage regulator regulate the alternator voltage all by itself, or does it get the control signals from the ECU?

What i have always found strange about this car (besides the other numerous things ha ha) is that when i start the car there is about a 2 second delay before the battery voltage comes up to the normal charge voltage of 14 volts. That means it does not charge for the first 2 seconds, then comes up slowly (over 1 more second) to the full 14v charge voltage.
Does this sound normal or you think the regulator is not exactly working right?
All the other cars i had were older, and their alternators start putting out as soon as the engine starts and you let go of the ignition key so the voltage comes up right away to some higher level (above 12v or so). With this car there is a delay before that happens.

That's a normal pattern, takes a couple seconds.

The voltage regulator is part of the alternator, it works by itself independent of the ECU.

Thanks very much. I see the alternators are a little pricy too for these cars. The alternator for my last car which was a 1988 Hyundai, was priced around $60 USD. I kept that car on the road for 20 full years as it became an antique! Went through two or three alternators
