"On call service required" and phone kaput

I have had an ex-demo 2005 S40 T5 Geartronic for a few weeks. Suddenly there's a message "ON CALL SERVICE REQUIRED" and - presumably not coincidence - the phone doesn't work - nothing happens when I try to activate it. Any advice?

There also have been a couple of instances of false "bulb failure" messages, but those have gone away of their own accord.
